The day is greeting me with both apprehension and excitement. Our appearance on the Montel Williams show airs today. Montel gave me the opportunity to explain my early symptoms and how I was misdiagnosed. Early screening is a message I hope many people learn from the show. The thought of saving just one life brings me great hope!
I will comment on my disappointment of the local media. I had communicated with several contacts, including the local Fox affiliate that airs the Montel show. In my communication I explained my need to get the word out about early screening. My hope was they would at least mention today’s show. Not to get my face on local media…but to assist me in causing change in the discussion of colon cancer. I am learning quickly that it is a taboo subject.
This may be an assumption on my part…I have to wonder if the show was related to breast cancer screening if there would have been publicity. Breasts are wonderful…they provide nourishment, comfort and enjoyment. Colons create fecal matter. What people do not recognize is that more people die from colon cancer each year than breast cancer. These statistics are not known due to the imbalance of awareness.
Montel provided the engine…I will continue to fuel it and get the message out.

Kathy,
Don’t be disappointed. You’ve done a fantastic job so far in getting your message out. Imagine how many people you will reach through the Montel Williams show alone? You’ve made a huge difference… don’t get discouraged. Keep it going!
Dear Kathy,
As my thoughts and prayers are always with you unfortunately I wasn’t aware of the date of the show and I did miss it, which makes me soooo angry at myself. Will they replay it at a later date? You are so right for there is a bit of George Bailey in all of us. God Bless, Patty
Kathy,
I saw your Montel Show, and Wow you were great. You have a beautiful family and the memory boxes you made your family were perfect.
I couldn’t think of anything other than the videos I made for my daughter. I can’t believe you held onto all of that. I have nothing except photos from when my daughter was a baby.
I thought 3 of us from the blog were going and I was really excited to meet other people with stage 4 cancers. I was pretty disappointed everything changed.
My sister contacted the producer without me knowing and really gave her a hard time about not telling me the truth about everything and backing out at the last minute. I received an e-mail back from Jenn apologising and they say they are planning to still have me on a show in the near future. My sister found out the next day that she has cervical cancer. I can not believe that we now both have cancer, they are not genetically related cancers as far as I know.
If you come down to the Clearwater, FL area for anything let me know so we can get together. Also, I am in the finishing stages of writing a book. It is about to go to the publisher and I would like to include your story. If you have something already done can you e-mail it to me?
The book is about the whole process diagnosis, treatment, hope and living life to the fullest once you realise you don’t have much time left.
I have my story along with a few others.
My e-mail is: donnarichno@yahoo.com
You did a fantastic job getting the message out.
